Running for city council was a difficult decision for me. As many of you know, I previously served on the council and when I completed my term, I felt I was done. However, with Mayor Pengra and Adam Bradley not seeking reelection and Stephanie Gricius and Tom Westmoreland running for mayor, the city is left with an experience deficit. I am uniquely qualified to fill that deficit. My understanding of city code, city government processes and budgets will be invaluable. Communication is also important and I have a strong track record of being responsive to residents. I was the council member that everyone counted on to always answer emails and phone calls. When residents had specific concerns about a site or a park, I met them on site to discuss their concerns and work for solutions. As your council member, I commit to be responsive to your emails and phone calls, meet with you and discuss your concerns when asked, and hold quarterly town hall meetings to keep you informed, hear your concerns and discuss solutions. I have raised my family in Eagle Mountain, and I want to serve you. Please vote for Donna Burnham for City Council.
Communication - My Commitments:
I will work to move the timeline forward on many crucial connector road projects to alleviate the traffic issues. I have good working relationships with elected officials on the County and State level which will enable me to effectively advocate for our city.
I am very much a supporter of increased economic development in our city, but my goals are specific. I am not interested in pursuing factories that will pollute our air and ruin our night skies. Instead, we should pursue companies that will provide quality jobs without polluting or detracting from our sense of community. I recommend we meet as a council with staff, the economic development board and other stakeholders to evaluate what is working with our approach to attracting businesses and how we can improve.
We chose to raise our family here in Eagle Mountain for several reasons including the amazing sense of community, the family friendly atmosphere, trails, and the beautiful night skies. I want our city to be vibrant and diverse, while never losing our sense of community. To achieve this, we need balanced growth. Development needs to make sense, as well, so that traffic flows better and widely different uses are not placed side by side and adequate buffering is in place.
